Ekahau was an early entrant in ‘RTLS’ category of asset tracking tags. We expertly positioned them against the better-known RFID category to establish traction, and crushed it in the press.
Our earned media coverage eclipsed their arch-rival Aeroscout, as we leaned in on Ekauhau’s the superior accuracy of its probablistic location technology (versus the then-standard wi-fi triangulation method). This technology distinction created significant the industry chatter and attracted $16 million in funding, including a strategic investment from 3M.
Ekahau was acquired by the Ookla subsidiary of Ziff Davis and became the single most profitable portfolio exit for its lead VC.
